Bingo! Three Places to Play this Old School Classic

I never thought I would say this, because I’m not 80…but I LOVE Bingo!

The classic game is having a moment here in Madison. And I’ve been partaking in those moments on a regular basis.

There are several places to play Bingo in the area. Along with many different ways to play. And prizes to be won.

I love winning stuff even more than I love Bingo.

Here are my three favorite places to play this old standard that has suddenly become cool again. And what you need to know before you go: Continue reading “Bingo! Three Places to Play this Old School Classic”

5 Reasons Why Aldi Is My New Jam

As someone who loves a good deal and is not partial to any one grocery store, I gave Aldi a try a few years ago, per my husband’s suggestion.  To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. I just didn’t get it.

In addition to there being zero aesthetic appeal, I also didn’t understand the layout. Add that to the fact that almost everything they carry is brands exclusive to Aldi. So I also wasn’t really familiar with any of their products.

I didn’t love how everything was displayed in the bulk shipment boxes that they came in. And every aisle seemed like a random hodge podge of items I’d never tried before.

After that visit, I turned my nose up to Aldi and decided there was no reason I’d ever need to shop there again. Continue reading “5 Reasons Why Aldi Is My New Jam”

The Best Coffee in Madison (According to Me)

I don’t really remember when I first started drinking coffee. But I do know it was a long time ago.

The best part of waking up, is some darn good coffee in my Mom Fuel cup!

For the past 12+ years, I’ve been relying on it daily. To help give me the get up and go I need to get started and through my day.

I started like most coffee newbies. By adding an absurd amount of cream and sugar to actually make it drinkable.

Then I graduated to buying primarily flavored coffee. The thought of which now makes me shudder.

How to Incorporate Essential Oils Into Your Daily Routine

You have probably seen people posting on social media about essential oils a lot these days, because it seems like a hot new trend. It’s not a trend, however. Essential oils have actually been around for a very long time.

When I was trying to conceive, I started to evaluate the products I was using both in terms of personal care and around the house. I learned about sulfates, parabens and phthalates in commonly used beauty products and wound up switching to natural beauty and health care items. I also turned to “green” household cleaners and pitched the toxic chemicals. Continue reading “How to Incorporate Essential Oils Into Your Daily Routine”

How a New Set of Dishes Caused My Anxiety to Spiral

I have mild anxiety.

I am pretty sure I’ve had it my whole life.

And it has reared its ugly head many many times throughout the past several years. Especially while trying to conceive, throughout my entire pregnancy, and since becoming a Mom.

Since this is something I’ve always struggled with, I’ve become much better at identifying and naming it when it’s happening.

Sometimes I understand and can trace it back to a particular event that might have triggered it. Other times, it comes on so suddenly and unexpectedly, that I feel like a deer caught in the headlights. Continue reading “How a New Set of Dishes Caused My Anxiety to Spiral”

My #40by40 Goal

Three days after my 39th birthday, I set a goal to lose 40 pounds by my 40th birthday. Then I announced it publicly. On Facebook. I thought by doing so, I would have some accountability to follow through on that goal. Because if I didn’t, my 987 friends would think I’m a failure.

Thing is, I set that goal because it sounded good. #40by40. Not because I actually thought it was a realistic or achievable goal for me. Someone who has never lost 40 pounds in a year ever. And has struggled to lose even 10 for the last oh I don’t know, 9 years?

So looking back, I was perhaps setting myself up to fail. However, I knew it was doable if I completely changed my lifestyle. Something I wasn’t actually willing to do… Continue reading “My #40by40 Goal”

Trick or Treat? Finding the Fun in Halloween Again

Having a kid has in some ways made me feel like a kid again myself. It has given new life and meaning to holidays and traditions that brought me a lot of joy as a child.

For example, I have never really been a big fan of Halloween. I kind of don’t get it. Why do we dress up in costume and parade around the neighborhood asking strangers for free candy again? I mean, whose idea was this?

Of course I enjoyed this activity as a kid and happily participated until I was old enough for it to be frowned upon. But Halloween as an adult was never really that much fun. Continue reading “Trick or Treat? Finding the Fun in Halloween Again”

Why Every Woman Needs a Proper Bra Fitting

After losing 20 pounds over the last year, I realized that my bras no longer fit the way they should. As a large busted woman, I can’t simply go to Kohl’s or Target to pick out a new one. Bra shopping for me requires going to a specialty store where they carry cup sizes up to an H (DDDDD).

There are two such stores here in Madison. One that I’ve been going to for years, and one I’ve never been to before. So, I decided to stop at the shop I was already familiar with the weekend before my birthday, as we were on that side of town and my husband wanted to go “play” at his friend’s house.
